Out on the Town

I arrived in Naperville at Adam and Beth’s apartment late on Saturday night for a long-overdue weekend get together with friends from high school. Actually, Beth is a friend from early childhood. We always say that we are each other’s first friends all the way back from when our families both moved to Rockford when we were seven years old. My friend Erin and her boyfriend Mars arrived at the apartment only a few moments later. Erin is a great friend from high school who now lives in Montana, and this was the first time I had the opportunity to meet her boyfriend, Mars, who I totally approve of. He rocks. As we chatted, Beth generously served up her signature drink—black cherry vodka with a splash of diet cherry coke. By midnight, we were ready to go out so we headed to downtown Naperville for a taste of the big city nightlife. The downtown bars were all very crowded with lines extending down the block. This, apparently, due to the fact that the popular, week-long downtown Rib Fest coincided with our visit. Luckily, we did make it into a couple less crowded bars and continued to drink up. It didn’t take much since I now have the tolerance of a toddler. I never drink. At least not more than an occasional glass of wine or beer. Nevertheless, I had a great time catching up with old friends and didn’t feel too badly in the morning. Cheers!
