From the kitchen of Jackie McGillivray (Dave's Mom)
"A recipe for the very cookies that both sustained me during and after long runs and rewarded me (immediate gratification) for each effort. Mom’s “CCCs” were my “energy bars” back in the ‘70’s and ‘80’s. Mom was known by many far and wide for her chocolate-chip cookies. No matter how many journeys I took, the smell of the brown sugar and the melted chocolate always meant home was not very far away."
1 cup shortening
2 eggs
½ tsp. vanilla extract
¾ cup granulated sugar
¾ cup brown sugar
2 ¼ cups flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt
1 bag (12 oz.) semi-sweet chocolate chips
Cream together the shortening, eggs, vanilla, and sugars. Add the flour, baking soda, and salt. Stir in the chocolate chips.
Form into balls and place on a cookie sheet. Flatten wit the palm of your hand. If batter is sticky, add more flour.
Bake at 350 degrees for about 9 minutes, or until golden brown.

When you're racing and end up "tossing your cookies," it can now be taken literally.
